Authoritative climate information — past, present and future
The Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S) is operated by the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF), as part of the European Union’s Copernicus Programme.
C3S delivers authoritative information about the past, present and future climate, along with tools that support climate-change mitigation and adaptation strategies for policy makers and businesses.
Climate reanalyses (ERA5)
Consistent datasets on the past climate, at global and European scale.
Seasonal forecasts
Anticipating climate conditions over horizons of several months.
Climate projections
Scenarios for the future evolution of the climate, for long-term planning.
Climate indicators
Essential climate variables and indices for monitoring and assessment.
Climate Data Store
The central repository of climate datasets and tools.
Adaptation support
Sectoral information (C3S Atlas, ESOTC) for resilience decisions.
From a European service to national capacity
The C3S National Collaboration Programme (C3S NCP) is an ECMWF initiative and a core pillar of the C3S user-engagement strategy, designed to strengthen climate services across EU Member States and participating countries.
Through a Joint Coordination Office established in February 2024, the programme runs expert forums and workshops twice a year and issues “Calls for Action” — competitive funding opportunities designed together with the participating countries.
Climate information put into national context
Capacity building
Knowledge exchange and technical training on C3S data and services, to strengthen national climate-monitoring capacity.
Tailored climate information
Developing tailored data and tools by integrating C3S products with local expertise.
Adaptation support
Working with national administrations to inform adaptation planning in agriculture, water management and energy.
Sharing good practice
A platform for Romanian stakeholders to share experience with peers across Europe.
Cross-border coordination
Coordinated action on shared challenges: coastal areas, mountains and river basins.
Access to data and tools
A gateway to the Climate Data Store, the C3S Atlas and essential climate indicators.
